Angela Zawada, Soprano


Angela Zawada is the soprano soloist and section leader of the Chancel Choir at First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland.  In this role, she has performed solos from sacred works by Handel, Mendelssohn, Bach, Bernstein and Saint-Saens, as well as other special music and the choruses in productions of Les Miserables and Evita.  She was previously active in the Chicagoland opera scene. In 2013, she performed the role of Fini in Chicago Folks Operetta's production of The Land of Smiles.  In 2012, she performed the role of Camilla in Schubert’s one-act opera, Die Verschworenen, with Sinfonietta Bel Canto and portrayed Antonia in a Katydid Productions performance of Les Contes d’Hoffmann earlier in the year.  She was also seen in the chorus of Tosca and Tales of Hoffmann, as well as a production called "Forest Fantasies" with Lingerie Lyrique, which involved burlesque-style performances of works by Rossini, Massenet and Janacek. 

She received her Master of Music degree from Roosevelt University, and holds her Bachelor degree from the University of Notre Dame. At Notre Dame, she sang the title role in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, and at Roosevelt, she performed the role of Miss Pinkerton in Menotti's The Old Maid and The Thief. With Chicago's Millennium Chamber Players, she portrayed Amaranta in the U.S. premiere of Cimarosa's L'infedeltà fedele and Marcellina in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. In addition to operatic performances, Angela has been the soprano soloist in various masses and oratorios, including Handel's Messiah and Dubois' The Seven Last Words of Christ.  She was also a founding member and performer with Chicago's VOX 3 vocal collective, which specializes in performances of art song literature.
